Welcome to my Rally Campaign
My name is Haley Cutler, I am 19 years old and I’m an alpine ski racer. I have been racing at the NorAm and FIS levels for two years now, and someday I hope to race on the World Cup and be a part of the U.S. Ski Team.
Skiing is No Cheap Habit
Everyone knows ski racing is a costly sport and the older I get, the more expensive it becomes. I am currently trying to raise $16,000 for my 2016-17 racing season. This all adds up from race entry fees, travel, lodging, meals, coaching fees, and training lanes (if needed). I will be racing on the NorAm Circuit along with other FIS races. There are about 10-12 races that I will be in, so it averages out to about $1,600 per race (some more, some less). With your help, I hope to compete in these races and achieve my goals of being on the U.S. Ski Team and racing in the World Cup.
How I Got Where I Am
I started skiing on the rope tow in Sun Valley, Idaho at the age of two, and began racing at the age of five. I’ve always had a great passion for skiing and once I started getting competitive, I enjoyed it even more. Growing up in Sun Valley and being a part of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) made it really easy to fall in love with skiing. I am still a part of the SVSEF today and they continue to endlessly support me.
I started racing FIS when I was 16 years old (three full seasons), and each season has gotten better and better. As a first year FIS, I podiumed at U-18 Nationals and I qualified for U.S. Nationals. As a second year, I did both of those things, as well as, winning a couple FIS races throughout the season and competing in NorAm races for the first time. And finally, as a third year(2015-16 season) I’m the U-19 National Super G Champion, placed 4th overall and 2nd for juniors in a NorAm race, won 8 total FIS races, and brought my Super G points down to 29. I also competed in U.S. Nationals at my home hill in Sun Valley and placed 8th in the Super Combined and 10th in the Super G.
Throughout the last three seasons, I have had to do a lot of fundraising, working, and applying for scholarships. If I want to keep my ski racing career alive, it takes a little bit of everything.
During the last two summers, I have spent a couple weeks with SVSEF’s younger athletes in Mt. Hood helping to coach and mentor. I help break down some of the fundamentals and apply what I have learned throughout my skiing career. I believe that the next generation of upcoming athletes need to be exposed to positive role models, and I hope I’ve done just that.
I have been very fortunate to have generous supporters in the past, and I hope to gain their support again. My parents, grandparents, coaches, the SVSEF, and the Western Region have all been a part of my team for a good amount of time now and I am very grateful to have them as well. Now, the only thing missing from my team is you! Your support, no matter how big or small, will help me get closer and closer to reaching my goal.
I want you on my team!
