I Made the Olympic Team! I am so excited that I get to represent Team USA in the Sochi Olympics. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to every one that has supported me through RallyMe. I also wanted to give you an update on the swag. My schedule is crazy right now and I just don't have time to send the swag out right now. I have not forgotten about you. I will send the swag out after I get back from the Olympics if I have time then, if I don't have time then I will send it out after the World Cup season is over.
Again I just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone that has helped me get here.
Intro
Hi, I am Heidi Kloser from Vail, CO. I am 21 years old and a mogul skier on the U.S. Ski Team. This is my 5th season on the U.S. Ski Team.
The Why
My dream of being on the US Ski Team came true when I was named to the team in 2009. So many of my dreams came true during my first season on the ski team. I earned starts for the U.S. World Cups , and I was named to the World Cup team for the remainder of the year after I won the Nor-AM title. I was awarded the coveted FIS World Cup Rookie of the Year crystal cup.
When, I was named to the US Ski Team, the team required me to make a large deposit of money into my team account to cover travel, training and competition expenses. At the start of every season, I need to make that deposit into my team account. Being on the full World Cup circuit my expenses have become quite high. Through my hard work and budgeting and with the generosity of my family, friends and some of my sponsors I have managed to make ends meet. Each year, it gets harder to come up with the money to cover my expenses. It is always a burden and a concern I carry with me. I have had a dream of competing in the Olympics since the first day I understood what the Olympics were all about. This year I have a pretty good chance to make the Olympic Team. The bottom line is: Getting to the Olympics not only takes hard work, it alos takes money. You helping me fund my season will help in making my Olympic dream a reality. If you can help, I will be forever grateful of your financial support, as I am so grateful l for the people that have already helped me. I really hope that I will be able to inspire others, as my role models have inspired me.
Your story, your background
I started skiing when I was a 1 year old. My parents took me up for one run and I loved it so much we kept going until the mountain was closed. The next winter, if I saw any moguls or bumps I would ski right towards them with my mother following me holding on to the ski training harness that was attached to me. I entered my first official mogul competition at 7 years old. My parents told me I was too young as the age group was 14 and under. I pleaded with them until they finally said okay. I ended up winning that competition and from that day I on, I had my sights set on being the best mogul skier in the world.
The road has not always been easy. I have had a hairline fracture in my femur and two knee surgeries. I finished my junior and senior years of high school while I was on the World Cup circuit. It was quite challenging to find the time and a place to get my homework, papers and tests finished. I persevered and graduated with a 3.97 GPA.
In skiing, I have always tried to not only push myself but to push the sport too. I was the first female athlete to compete with a backfull in Nor-Am Cup competition. It was the hardest aerial trick ever thrown (and landed) by a female. I did it in my very first world cup. I will continue to challenge myself and the sport with adding more difficult elements to my skiing.
What you need
I need $15,000 to help off set the cost of my seasion. This includes plane tickets, lodging, lift tickets, comp fees, and other travel expenses.
