In my 2013/2014 season I suffered a pretty bad concussion. This concussion not only put me out for a while, but I had to re-learn how to snowboard. That whole season I went through some serious depression, and I had to try and find the love for my sport again. My story is about perservering through everything and achieving my goals.
Going through everything that happened last year only made me want to work harder and make it to Junior Worlds. At the end of last year's season, I started to work out rigorously, and I went on a diet. I was completely focused on the upcoming year and started to work on my mental game as well. I visualized myself doing well in competitions and making clean runs in training. Fall training came, and I was ready. I knew this was going to be my season.
The competitions this year were very tough; there are a lot of great competitors, and I just had to focus on one run at a time. I sometimes would find myself more worried about the outcome than about my riding performance. Once I got past that, my runs came together, and I put down some of the best runs.
The hard work definitely paid off, and I am now going to represent the U.S. at the FIS Junior World Championships in Yabuli, China. It is a pretty surreal feeling, and I am beyond lucky that I have this opportunity to compete. I really put all my focus and effort into getting to this point.
Why I'm raising funds:
I have just been named to the U.S. team for the 2015 Junior Worlds in China! Even though I made Junior Worlds, China is very expensive. Funding would cover lodging, airfare, food, coaching, and travel expenses. With your help this would allow me to go and compete for the U.S.
I am very grateful for all my friends and my family who have supported me throughout my crazy journey of getting here. I am also thankful for my sponsors; Steamboat Mountain School for helping to educate me; POC for keeping my head safe; Swany gloves for keeping my hands super warm on those cold days; Darn Tough Socks for keeping my feet toasty; and Swix for the insanely fast wax. All of the support has really pushed me and motivated me to make it to Junior Worlds so I greatly appreaciate it.
Any donation is very helpful; if you're not able to donate, no worries. It would still mean a lot to me if you could share my story on your social media pages to get the word out.
Thank you, and I hope to make the United States proud!
